Grubhoff camping Salzburg to Jodl Camping Villach
We were awoken on our last morning at Camping Grubhoff to
the sound of the cows meandering along the opposite river bank, their bells
creating a riot of noise, wouldn’t have minded but it was well before 5 am. Then the dairyman was out blowing a horn to
gather all the cows in, he must have lost one because he was blowing his horn a
long time, either that or the cows couldn’t hear him over the clanging of the
bells. All the cows over here have huge
bells around their necks, it must drive them mad.
We packed up and left the site on Sunday a good day to
travel as lorries are banned on Sundays. The route to Villach was quite interesting;
to begin with it was very steep in places and with lots of hair pin bends. Well
we were travelling over the Alps, the second part of the journey was on the
Austrian motorway with 99% of the cars being German, didn’t realise that here
in Austria and Germany it is a national holiday weekend (Whitsun).
We arrived at Villach at 12.59pm, a minute to spare until
the office closed, just caught Andy the owner in time and managed to get on to
pitch and set up within 30 minutes.
Camping Jodl is probably one of the prettiest sites we have stayed at, we will definitely come back here.
Here are a few pictures of our pitch and the view that we
have.

We rolled out the sun awning on the caravan, had a lazy
lunch/afternoon watching the Grebes catch small fish; the lake is literally
jumping with them. In the evening we had
a bar-b-q and watched the sun go down, a lovely way to end the day.

Today we drove into Villach, although it is a National
holiday and all the shops shut and that means all shops shut, not even a
supermarket open just a few cafes and restaurants we had a wander through the
town. Villach is a newer town than most that we have seen, but even so a
pleasant walk was had by all.
